PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster is one quarterback deeper after they took Penn State signal-caller Drew Allar within the third spherical (No. 76 general) on Friday evening. Even with the addition, there’s greater than sufficient room for Aaron Rodgers to settle again in if he so chooses.
First-year Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy was requested if Allar being thrown into the combo impacts what the crew is hoping to listen to from Rodgers.
“No, not at all,” McCarthy said on Saturday evening throughout a post-draft press convention on the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “This is about developing the room, and trying to make the room as deep as we possibly can.”
Rodgers went 10-6 because the Steelers’ starter final season, passing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions whereas serving to steer them to the playoffs. Depending on what occurs with Mason Rudolph, Allar and second-year Ohio State product Will Howard might function Rodgers’ backups if he returns to the Steel City, regardless of neither having ever taken an expert snap.
“These are all questions, answers, hypotheticals that really, it won’t change what I’ve already said,” McCarthy stated. “I will coach the hell out of that room. I have a lot of confidence. I have history and experience that I will give everything I can to any quarterback in that room. We wanna grow the quarterback room. We don’t wanna just rely on one quarterback.”
