LEWISTON (WGME) — A shelter-in-place order has been issued on the Bates College campus in Lewiston.
The alert says that the Lewiston Police Department is responding to a report of an armed suspect in the realm of Central Avenue and Campus Avenue.
The textual content messages say the suspect is described as a person in his mid-30s, carrying a blue hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
A spokesperson for Bates College says they’re monitoring the scenario after there have been studies of a gunman close to campus.
The Lewiston Police Department says it’s responding to an ongoing scenario on College Street.
Police say native faculties and hospitals are in lockdown whereas they handle the incident.
Lewiston Public Schools Superintendent Jake Langlais issued an announcement Thursday concerning the lockdowns.
