Today programme: BBC announces Rebecca Keating is new editor of Radio 4’s flagship news show

She added: “In a fractured landscape, where what is true is increasingly harder to ascertain, Today’s role in holding power to account and hosting the debates shaping our society is more important than ever.”

Today stays the BBC’s flagship radio news programme, with the most recent Rajar figures stating 5.61m listeners tuned in over the last three months of 2025.

Keating, who joined the BBC from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, has lined some of the largest news tales for BBC retailers – together with the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, common elections and conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza and Iran.

“I look forward to working with Amol, Anna, Emma, Justin and Nick, along with the programme’s clever and incredibly diligent production team, to ensure Today thrives in the next phase of its evolution,” she added.

John McAndrew, the company’s director of stay and every day news, mentioned he hoped her appointment can deliver “new audiences across all platforms, while preserving its [Today’s] unique heritage and special place in listeners’ lives”.

Keating will exchange Owenna Griffiths, who was within the function for greater than 5 years.
