Peak District location for ITV’s ruthless reality game show The Neighbourhood

Television celeb Graham Norton hosts a ruthless new reality show – filmed within the Peak District – which is able to air for the primary time this week.

The Neighbourhood shines the highlight on six households residing facet by facet who should attempt to get alongside or threat being voted out of the neighborhood. At stake is a £250,000 prize.

ITV’s new show, which is about to rival The Traitors, was filmed in a purpose-built ‘Neighbourhood’ close to Matlock over three weeks final yr. Graham mentioned: “Arriving in Derbyshire and seeing the set, I’d seen pictures but I didn’t quite understand the scale of it. It really is like being on a movie set, except it’s 360 – everywhere you look, it’s real. The art department did an extraordinary job of building up that town square where we do the removals, the pub, the cafe, the interiors of the houses. It really took my breath away! Then add on top of that, what Derbyshire does when the drone goes up and we see the Neighbourhood and the nature and the rest of it, it’s so beautiful, those big driving shots.”

Graham mentioned that The Neighbourhood leans into the general public’s curiosity about what’s behind closed doorways. “We all – even if you don’t necessarily want to – get drawn into those everyday dramas. The ‘you haven’t cut the lawn, they put the bins out wrong, you shouldn’t park there,’. he said. “What the show does is really amp those moments up, and dramatises them even more. There’s the gameplay but because they’re there all the time there’s the reality that these people really are living next door to each other and watching each other like hawks and like any good neighbourhood, you want your way but you want to keep everyone sweet and that’s the skill!”

In the first episode, contestants will be suspended seven metres in the air on a giant washing line as they answer questions about their family. Over the course of the series there will be games focused on curtain twitching and nasty gnomes. If the participants do well they are safe, if not they go to the vote, which is described as ‘The Removals’.

Graham said: “Like a lot of reality shows, we begin with a cast of around twenty people and often it’s really hard to work out who anyone is! But actually, this is really easy because it’s only six households on day one and within that you then discover the different personalities. We have a traditional, multi-generational family, we’ve got blended modern families, we’ve got twin sisters and one of their girlfriends, we’ve got a university household where they’re flatmates, so the relationships are all different in each household.”

Four male students from Nottingham University, twins from Liverpool and families from Darlington, Bedfordshire, Cambridge and Essex are the contestants.

“One of the loveliest issues in regards to the show is seeing households who would by no means meet in actual life, not solely assembly however forming correct bonds of friendship,” said Graham. “There are a few moments in the show that really do bring a tear to my eye because it’s just so genuine, so lovely and properly heartwarming.

The Neighbourhood goes out on ITV on Friday, April 24, at 9pm and will be available on ITVX.
