

A Milton Keynes man has accomplished a 247-kilometre run from his house in town to Bury FC’s ground in memory of his friend who died from cancer.
Matt Barker accomplished the problem in 39 hours in memory of his friend Paul ‘Spin’ Spencer, who he has identified for the reason that age of 4.

Matt, who lives in the Woolstone space of Milton Keynes, began the journey at 9pm on Thursday April 2 and completed in time for Bury FC’s Northern Premier League West Division fixture in opposition to Congleton Town on April 4, which Bury FC gained 4-1.
Matt ran to Bury FC’s ground as he went to the staff’s matches with ‘Spin’ throughout his childhood, at a time when Bury FC performed in the English Football League.
The membership was expelled from the Football League in 2019 due to longstanding monetary difficulties, and merged with phoenix membership Bury AFC in 2023, with the facet now competing in the eighth tier of the English soccer pyramid.
Matt described his friend’s prognosis as ‘a complete shock’ and praised Bury Hospice for the care they offered ‘Spin’ with throughout the remaining levels of his life.
“The level of care at Bury Hospice was off the charts, their thoughtfulness, patience, attention and empathy were incredible,” Matt stated.
“Spin’s relative comfort and calmness meant we got to spend quality time with our friend for some precious final times.”
Speaking following the problem Matt instructed the Citizen: “It was a real team effort with people joining sections of the run, supporting and helping collect donations at Gigg Lane {Bury FC’s ground}.”
