A points failure at East Grinstead has led to a number of rail traces being blocked.

Southern Rail reported at 6.24pm on Thursday, March 19, a number of traces had been blocked and companies working to and from the station could also be cancelled, delayed or revised consequently.

A spokesperson for Southern Rail added: “Trains that have come to a stand between stations will be moved back to a previous station.

“If your train is delayed between stations, please stay on board and listen for updates. You can also ask staff if you need more information. Staff know where you are and are working to get you moving as soon as possible.

“For your safety, please don’t leave the train unless instructed. Other trains may still be running, and the tracks can be very dangerous. If the area has an electric third rail, it stays live even during delays and looks just like the other rails.

“Staff have recently been told about this incident, and are working to get more information for you. Your journey is likely to be disrupted, but we don’t have an exact estimate for any delays at the moment.”
