Iran calls deaths at wedding celebration a ‘war crime’ as US denies targeting civilians

While there have been no official conferences between Iranian and US officers just lately, there have reportedly been visits to Tehran by regional mediators such as Pakistan, Oman and Qatar.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian mentioned yesterday that Tehran would instantly resume implementing the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June if Washington returned to its personal commitments beneath the settlement.

But he made these remarks earlier than final evening’s US assaults on Iran, and this morning the message from Iran’s Armed Forces and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been one among defiance and retaliation.

Iran has repeatedly accused the US of breaching the agreements within the MoU, whereas Washington has accused Tehran of attacking vessels within the Strait of Hormuz.

The US can also be persevering with its naval blockade of Iran, which has affected the nation’s means to export oil.

Inside Iran, there may be renewed financial stress after Washington introduced a recent sanctions marketing campaign on 24 August, aimed at additional isolating Tehran and increasing secondary sanctions on its allies.

Iranian officers and state media have largely dismissed the marketing campaign as a continuation of earlier US financial measures, arguing that they got here after what they name Washington’s army failure within the latest battle.
