Gaston County woman wins 0K with first ever lottery ticket

GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) – A Gaston County woman purchased a scratch-off lottery ticket for the first time and received $100,000 this week.

“I didn’t think I was looking at it right,” Kahla Jeffries advised lottery officials. Jeffries received certainly one of 80 $100,000 prime prizes — 58 have been left as of this writing.

The scratch-off was purchased at Wills Food Store on Hickey Grove Road in Gastonia in July.

Jeffries had stopped for gasoline and determined to purchase a scratch-off for the first time ever. She walked away with the $100,000 prime prize.

Jeffries was awarded $71,018 after state and federal tax withholdings on Friday, July 24. She stated she deliberate to used her winnings to purchase a brand new automobile and save for college.

A North Carolina Education Lottery spokesperson stated that Gaston County acquired $14.2 million in training program help from lottery funds in 2025.
