DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry took to social media on Friday after a so-called “troubling” video surfaced of an officer during a current arrest.
The video started circulating on social media lately, and it reveals the officer apparently punching a suspect repeatedly within the face.
“The images in the video are troubling, and our community deserves clear answers about what occurred,” Henry wrote. “Chief Young is aware of the situation, and I have been informed that corrective measures are underway.”
Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young later launched an announcement on the video, which he known as “concerning.”
“The office involved has been placed in an administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation,” Young acknowledged. “We expect our officers to handle every encounter with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.”
The police chief shared a clip of the incident caught on the officer’s body-worn digital camera, which reveals the officer telling a person to pour out his beverage or else face arrest.
