NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Caesars Superdome is being transformed right into a baseball diamond this weekend for the first time in 22 years as the Savannah Bananas bring their model of baseball to New Orleans for the first time.
The Savannah Bananas face the Party Animals in two sold-out video games — Saturday, March 14, with first pitch at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 15, with first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
Banana Ball encompasses a dancing umpire, “dad bod” cheerleaders, a participant on stilts and a family-oriented following. The six-team league operates below a distinct algorithm than conventional baseball, together with a two-hour time restrict, no walks, no bunting, no stepping out of the batter’s field, no mound visits and a rule permitting followers to catch a foul ball for an out. The Savannah Bananas even have extra TikTok followers than any Major League Baseball group.
The Savannah Bananas launched in January 2016, initially promoting solely a handful of tickets. Owner Jesse Cole and his spouse Emily offered their home to fund one other try at the idea.
