Russell Brand Admits He ‘Didn’t Handle’ Marriage to Katy Perry ‘Well,’ Reveals If They Keep in Touch

Russell Brand is opening up about his marriage to Katy Perry, which lasted from 2010 to 2012.

During the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor’s look on the Wednesday, April 22, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Brand admitted to host Megyn Kelly, “I didn’t handle that marriage very well.”

When Kelly, 55, identified that Brand, 50, was “married to celebrity itself,” he agreed and mentioned that it was “overwhelming” being in a relationship that moved so quick so publicly.

Calling the “Firework” singer, 41, “really lovely,” Brand mentioned of his ex-wife: “She has an innocence, she’s a very beautiful person. She’s also incredibly driven and worked really, really hard.”

“Here’s me taking total responsibility for all the mistakes I made in that marriage,” he continued. “I felt like I was inadequate and not enough on my own.”

Brand mentioned the dissolution of their marriage, which solely lasted 14 months earlier than he filed for divorce, was “my fault.”

“I pushed to get married early because I felt inadequate and insecure and like I wasn’t enough — and that if I was married to her, I would somehow be a better person and more important,” he confessed. “And that put her under an unnecessary amount of pressure and strain.”

At the time, he defined that the celebrated pop star was concurrently “pursuing her dream,” including that “when she was doing that, I was in sort of a crisis of, like: Hold on a minute. I’m lonely, and this isn’t working.”

Kelly requested Brand if he and Perry — who’s now relationship former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau — maintain in contact contemplating “she said you never contacted her again after you sent her a note saying you wanted a divorce.”

Brand revealed, “Look, that is true.”

However, he mentioned, “I stay in touch with her father, Keith, and her mother, Mary, because they’re good Christian folks. And I must say I feel a good deal of sympathy with the recent allegations around Katy.”

Perry’s rep has vehemently denied Ruby Rose’s recent allegations that the singer sexually assaulted her 16 years in the past.

When Kelly identified that the Orange Is the New Black alum, 40, claimed Perry rubbed her vagina on her face, Brand mentioned jokingly, “I mean this is probably the old school man in me. I don’t even hear the crime there.”
