Get to Know UConn Coach Geno Auriemma’s Family

Tonight, the UConn Huskies will play within the Final Four, the twenty fifth time the staff has reached this stage of competitors underneath head coach Geno Auriemma.

Auriemma, 72, has coached the Huskies since 1985 and has received a file 12 championships making him the winningest coach in girls’s school basketball. Throughout his historic profession, he has been supported by his household, together with spouse Kathy, kids Jenna, Alysa, and Mike, son-in-laws Todd and Michael, and daughter-in-law Caitlyn, alongside together with his quite a few grandchildren.

“Geno’s a great father-in-law. Anybody who speaks to him on a regular basis knows that, knows he isn’t what some see in the media,” Todd said of his father-in-law over a decade in the past. “He’s very down to earth and relaxed. I’m Italian. He’s a typical Italian. It’s easy for us to have a conversation. He has been great to me from the beginning.”

“When you think of the brains of UConn basketball, you think of coach Auriemma,” former participant Stefanie Dolson said. “But when you think of the heart, you think of Mrs. A.” Geno and Kathy are school sweethearts, assembly at Montgomery County Junior College in 1972.

“My version is she has been following me around for about a week, or something like that, you know, stalking me, and eventually, you know, I got tired…And hers is probably closer to the truth,” Geno recalled of their first assembly. “She was a cheerleader and I was on the team, and we’re supposed to meet after the game. Everybody left, and she’s standing there. And I said, ‘Okay, where’s your house? Where are we going here?’ And she said, ‘See that drug store over there?’ I said yes. She goes, ‘Well, my mom and I have an apartment on top of the drugstore.’ I was like, like, hit the brakes. You know? I think we almost got an accident. Like, you got to be kidding me. The rest is history.”

They married in 1978, and have been collectively ever since. “My mom’s independent streak is what makes her marriage to my dad work. When Dad isn’t coaching during the season, he’s running conferences or going recruiting. Someone more accustomed to co-dependency would not be OK with all that alone time. But my mom shrugs it off,” their center daughter, Alysa, wrote of her dad and mom’ marriage. Read more here:

Geno Auriemma’s daughter Jenna Auriemma Stigliano and son-in-law Todd Stigliano

Geno’s eldest, Jenna Auriemma, now goes by Jenna Auriemma Stigliano after marrying Todd Stigliano. Todd and Jenna have three sons: Christian, Andrew, and Luke. According to her bio on X, she is a “Mother of sons. Educator. Coffee lover.” Geno mentioned, “Kathy and I were lucky as parents that our daughter wasn’t the kind in high school and college to go out to parties and clubs every night. She and Todd met. I liked him from the start. He has a good way with people, a really good way.”

According to the Hartford Courant, Todd and Jenna have been arrange by his aunt and uncle and her dad and mom. “The beginning for Stigliano came with a phone call from his aunt and uncle. Danny and Jody Delmastro of East Hartford, UConn ticket holders who had become good friends with Geno and Kathy Auriemma through the years, were out with them one night. Jenna Auriemma was there,” the paper notes.

Todd performed soccer at Providence and graduated in 2003, after which grew to become a math instructor. He’s the co-chair of the Geno for the Kids charity and Director of Business Operations for Cafe Aura, Geno’s restaurant. On his Instagram bio, he writes, “Ultimate sports activities dad, Cafe Aura DOBO, PC ‘03, lover of all things cheese.”

Alysa Auriemma is a instructor at Miss Porter’s School and a romance author. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a twin diploma in English literature and drama.

Per her official instructor bio, “In addition to her role as faculty in the Humanities Department, Alysa Auriemma ’03 serves as an advisor to the literary magazine and head coach of Thirds Basketball…In the classroom, Alysa strives to create an equitable community that is both powerful and empowering. Her own rewarding experience as a Porter’s student prompted her to return to Farmington in 2018 as a teacher.”

Alysa lives in Manchester, Conn., together with her husband Michael Piscitelli, “and can often be found knitting, running on the Crisp track, or listening to podcasts.” She’s printed three books, according to her Amazon page, and has a substack called “The Curious AllyCat.”

Geno Auriemma’s son Michael “Mike” Auriemma and daughter-in-law Caitlyn Gearity Auriemma

Geno’s youngest and solely son, Michael, goes by Mike. He performed basketball rising up together with at East Catholic High School and The Hun School. He performed on the collegiate stage too, at St. Joseph’s University and Assumption University. He graduated from Assumption with a level in Mass Communication and Media Studies.

He married Caitlyn Gearity in September 2021. Caitlyn is an account govt at Swat Fame Inc., in accordance to her LinkedIn. Mike is now a Financial Advisor at Wells Fargo, per his LinkedIn.
