French police foil apparent bomb attack outside of Bank of America building in Paris

French police stopped an apparent bomb attack outside a Bank of America building in Paris early Saturday, and a person was arrested as he was about to set off a do-it-yourself explosive machine.

Police grabbed the person simply after he positioned a tool, made of 9 pints of a liquid believed to be gasoline, 23 ounces of explosive powder, and an ignition system, based on an preliminary evaluation. The machine will bear a full evaluation on the Paris police’s forensics lab.

The incident occurred round 3:30 a.m., whereas the workplace was closed. No workers have been injured, based on the financial institution. The building is situated in Paris’ stylish eighth arrondissement, just a few streets away from the Champs-Élysées. 

A suspect is in custody, France’s National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office informed CBS News.

The workplace informed CBS News it has opened an investigation into the fees of tried arson or harmful injury in reference to a terrorist enterprise, manufacture of an incendiary or explosive machine in reference to a terrorist enterprise, possession and transport of an incendiary or explosive machine with the intent to organize harmful injury, in reference to a terrorist enterprise and terrorist conspiracy.

The Paris police and France’s home intelligence service are additionally investigating, the prosecutor’s workplace mentioned. 

Bank of America head of international media relations Jessica Oppenheim informed CBS News that the corporate is “aware of the situation” and is “communicating with authorities.” 

French inside minister Laurent Nunez praised the police officers’ quick actions on X and mentioned they stopped “a violent action of a terrorist nature last night in Paris.”
