WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Former Baylor guard Melissa Jones, a fan favourite who performed for the Lady Bears from 2008-11 and later joined the Baylor volleyball group for the 2012 season, has died, her household confirmed. She was 36.
Jones died Friday at her dwelling in Commerce City, Colorado, her mom, Kathy Jones, confirmed to KWTX. A reason behind loss of life has not been launched. Funeral preparations are pending.
Kathy Jones stated her daughter’s time at Baylor remained a supply of pleasure and delight.
“She was my most treasured gift from God along with her 3 brothers,” Kathy stated.
Kathy stated Melissa cherished Baylor.
“It was the time of her life. She has so many fond memories and made so many beautiful friends there, and she’d kept up with so many over the years. It’s a beautiful thing,” she stated.
Kathy added that her daughter maintained an in depth relationship with former Baylor girls’s basketball coach and now Head LSU Women’s Coach Kim Mulkey.
“She loved Coach Mulkey. Melissa had an exceptional relationship with her,” she stated. “Kim had a special place in her heart for Melissa, and Melissa always had a very special place in her heart.”
Mulkey informed KWTX Melissa was a participant she’ll always remember who left her mark on this system, the neighborhood and her as a coach.
“Melissa Jones left her mark on Baylor University, not just women’s basketball. She was loved by the entire Waco community. Everything she did for us was full speed,” Mulkey stated. “She played the game the way every player should—always had energy, played hard, and was a great leader. Her teammates respected her because she represented everything—her effort, her caring, her knowledge and her toughness were unmatched. She was the “glue” that saved the group collectively good occasions and dangerous.”
