Wakefield Trinity have confirmed hooker Tyson Smoothy will join new NRL aspect Perth Bears on the finish of the season after being launched from his contract on compassionate grounds.
The 27-year-old Australian joined Trin on a three-year deal for this marketing campaign however head coach Daryl Powell mentioned earlier this month that he would be leaving at the end of 2026.
Smoothy has scored 4 tries in 21 appearances in all competitions to assist Wakefield to second in Super League.
“Tyson has made a fantastic contribution to the squad this season and while we would love to keep him, we are conscious of family circumstances and his desire to return home,” director of rugby Ste Mills told the club website., external
“Tyson’s attitude and performance have been first class all year and the club is supportive of his decision”.
Smoothy will join the newly fashioned Bears for his or her inaugural season alongside Leeds Rhinos trio James McDonnell, Harry Nerwman and Mikolaj Oledzki.
