In a letter to oldsters, Liz Baxter, deputy head teacher, confirmed the “sad and devastating news” that Mr Mullins “died in a road traffic accident on his way home from school”.
“I know that this news will be a dreadful shock to you and your children, and, as a community built up so strongly over so many years by our dear friend and colleague, Michael, we will all support each other during this awful period,” she mentioned.
“As a staff body, we have worked with Michael for many years and the relationships created can never be replaced.
“However, in his honour and as a mark of his tireless arduous work for Stretford Grammar School, we’ll pull collectively to proceed his legacy.”
Greater Manchester Police said the crash happened at the junction with Warburton Lane and Dunham Road.
“The automobile did not cease nevertheless over the course of Monday and immediately, officers have made 4 arrests in relation to this incident,” the spokesperson added.
Detectives have urged anybody with info or dashcam footage of the incident to return ahead.
