Netflix’s thrilling upcoming drama Unchosen, which stars Siobhan Finneran, has shared a first look at its spectacular forged – which additionally boasts Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) and Asa Butterfield (Sex Education). It seems that Unchosen was previously under the working title Out of the Dust, described as a psychological thriller – but now we’ve been given a first-look glimpse at the characters in action.
Molly Windsor (Traces, Cheat) will take on the central role of Rosie, who begins to question her place in the religious group after the arrival of outsider Sam (played by Fra Fee, of Lost Boys and Fairies). Sex Education‘s Asa Butterfield stars as Rosie’s husband, in his first TV role since the Netflix YA drama ended.
Not much is known about the characters played by Finneran – perhaps best known for her role in the BBC’s hit crime drama Happy Valley – and Eccleston, other than their names of “Mr and Mrs Phillips”.
The teaser trailer opens with a picturesque view of a seemingly-happy community, although there’s an eerie swell of music playing over the pastel hues. “We are blessed to dwell our lives inside this neighborhood,” a suited Mr Phillips declares to a congregation.
Cut to a dark cloud and a storm, and there’s an instant tonal shift hinting at an undercurrent of violence and control, both of which seem set to unravel as the story unfolds.
A release date has not yet been confirmed, but this has all the makings of being a must-watch when it arrives.
