Golf icons Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have each gained the Masters lately

Scottie Scheffler delivered a heartwarming response after watching his rival Rory McIlroy win the Masters in 2025. McIlroy ended his 11-year wait for an additional main triumph and completed his career Grand Slam at Augusta National.
The Northern Irishman’s victory was hard-fought as he defeated Justin Rose in a playoff after each completed on 11-under-par. McIlroy had been underneath immense stress at the Masters after struggling a number of near-misses at different majors.
There was a notable sigh of reduction from McIlroy as Scheffler offered him with the coveted Green Jacket. McIlroy beamed with delight however Scheffler was accused of being insincere during the ceremony.
The 2024 champion had completed fourth, three photographs off McIlroy, in his try to retain the Masters title. While some followers felt Scheffler exited the stage too quickly, the world No.1 defined that he had needed the new champion to be the sole focus after such a career-defining second.

“It was such an emotional day for him. I kind of just tried to stay out of the way and basically just get the jacket on without embarrassing him or myself,” Scheffler mentioned. “I got to watch the whole celebration.

“I watched the finish and it was really cool for me to be able to see it because I don’t have an understanding of what it’s like to be asked about the career Grand Slam, but I have a small understanding of what it’s like to be asked, ‘Hey, you’ve accomplished this, but you haven’t accomplished that…’
“It can be very taxing on people sometimes. So it was cool to be able to see Rory get the job done and definitely from the outside it looked a bit more like relief than anything because Rory has accomplished everything in the game of golf and that was really the last thing for him to accomplish.”
He continued: “I mean, the guy’s won the FedExCups, he won the Players, now he’s won all four Majors. I mean, maybe the only other thing would be the Olympics is what he’d want to win.
“So it was really cool for me to be there at that moment. You know, he’s a good friend of mine and to be able to congratulate him and to just see the joy in him and his family, it was really cool.”
Before the motion acquired underway at Augusta on Thursday, McIlroy and Scheffler had been closely tipped to win the Masters as soon as once more. Despite continuously battling in opposition to one another at the prime of the sport, McIlroy shared his admiration for Scheffler final month.
In an interview with Fried Egg Golf, Mcilroy mentioned of Scheffler: “He seems to just be in this mindset where whatever happens on the golf course happens, and it doesn’t make him any more or any less of a man, and he goes home and he’s happy with his family, and he shows up the next day and he plays golf again.
“I admire him so much for that because I’ve experienced in this world where you can be pulled in so many different directions. You have all these other opportunities that you can go and chase.
“I have quite a curious mind, so I do go and chase those, but then sometimes I do look at Scottie and be like, you know, maybe I wish I didn’t have so much going on because it works for him so well.”
