Ryan Coogler Announces Third ‘Black Panther’ Film, David Jonsson to Star

Ryan Coogler took the stage throughout Marvel Studios’ massive Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the place he revealed that he will likely be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct a 3rd Black Panther movie, solely in theaters on December 15, 2028. Joined by Letitia Wright, A.Ok.A. Shuri, and Winston Duke, A.Ok.A. M’Baku, Coogler introduced that David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Alien: Romulus) would be the new Black Panther within the upcoming movie.

Upon introducing Jonsson, Coogler shared additional particulars in regards to the character he’ll be enjoying. “The final time we acquired to make a film, we launched a personality who’s the son of the character that the good Chadwick Boseman performed, our T’Challa, in that movie. And immediately, I need to inform you that on this subsequent movie, he grows up [and] he comes of age.”

Jonsson stepped out to a standing ovation from the gang. “I want to say thank you so much,” he informed the viewers. “Thank you Ryan, thank you Kevin [Feige], thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join. I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine.”
