A Richmond resident is about to take on one of many world’s most iconic races to support refugees into work.
Richmond runner Hui Jiang will participate within the London Marathon on Sunday, 26 April raising funds for refugee employment charity Breaking Barriers.
It marks a particular milestone for the charity, as Hui would be the first runner to characterize Breaking Barriers on the occasion.
Hui is aiming to increase £2,000 to support the organisation’s work serving to refugees construct new lives by way of significant employment.
“I’m thrilled to be running the London Marathon for the very first time — encouraged (and gently pushed!) by my son, Austin,” he stated.
“Even more exciting, I’ve been selected to run on behalf of Breaking Barriers, an incredible charity that helps refugees build meaningful careers and rebuild their lives here in the UK.”
The London Marathon stays some of the standard races on this planet, with greater than 1.1 million folks coming into the poll for 2026 and round 50,000 runners anticipated to participate.
Breaking Barriers works with refugees dealing with important limitations to employment, together with language variations, lack of UK work expertise and discrimination. Through one-to-one support, coaching and partnerships with companies, the charity helps folks into sustainable careers.
Hui stated the trigger helps drive him by way of his coaching.
He added: “My goal is simple: finish the 26.2 miles and raise £2,000 to support Breaking Barriers’ vital work.
“Knowing that the funds I increase will make an actual distinction is conserving me going by way of each powerful coaching session and can encourage me each mile on race day.”
Now halfway through his training plan, Hui says he is feeling strong after recently completing a half marathon, as he continues to build up towards race day.
He is encouraging local residents to support his fundraising efforts, with donations helping refugees access training, career support and life-changing opportunities.
