While the unique painting is being restored and analysed, a life-sized reproduction is at the moment on show at Penshurst Place, as a part of a brand new exhibition named ‘Who Are the Two Boys?
Philip Sidney, inheritor to Penshurst Place, says information counsel “the painting has been in Penshurst since 1973”.
“It’s been on public display since 1947, but it’s only recently that we’ve been getting a lot more questions about it,” he mentioned.
The painting has no identified connection to Penshurst and whereas the identities of the themes stay unknown, Sidney says they’ll solely “speculate about the connection with the family”.
The authentic painting will return to Kent after its 18 months on public show on the National Portrait Gallery, which is able to run from September till March 2028.
