There was disruption to Greater Anglia providers on the main line between Ipswich and London on Monday afternoon.
All lines were blocked as emergency providers had been referred to as to an incident between Witham and Shenfield.
A spokesman for the British Transport police stated: “We had been referred to as to Ingatestone station round 3.20pm on Monday, April 6 following stories of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended together with paramedics however sadly, an individual was pronounced lifeless on the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
