A Margate household is heading into their first full summer time season at the helm of the city’s Great British Pizza.
The seafront restaurant enters a brand new chapter with household, neighborhood and coronary heart at its centre below the possession of Maria Friend and her sons, Bailey and Callum.
GB Pizza was based by Lisa Richards and her companion Rachel Seed in 2012 and began life in a VW camper on the Harbour Arm. Sadly, Rachel handed away in 2018. Lisa continued commerce till final 12 months.
For the Friend household, that is about way over enterprise. Great British Pizza has been their favorite restaurant because it first opened in order that they jumped at the likelihood to purchase it.
Callum, 22, stated: “Great British Pizza has meant a lot to us for years. It’s been our family’s favourite restaurant since 2012, so when the chance came up to take it on, it just made sense.
“Since stepping in last year, we’ve been busy managing the restaurant through a difficult winter period, supporting the team and making sure the right foundations are in place for the future. Now we’re excited for what’s ahead.”
Maria and her sons, with the assist of husband Leon, purchased the enterprise at the finish of Summer final 12 months and the focus has included strengthening the day-to-day operations and supporting the 15 full and part-time employees.
For Maria, whose household roots are in Galicia in north-west Spain, meals, household and hospitality have at all times gone hand in hand. Galicia is understood for its sturdy meals tradition, Atlantic shoreline, seafood traditions and deep sense of id — values that sit naturally alongside the ambiance and spirit the household need Great British Pizza to face for.
Maria, who beforehand owned a lettings company, stated: “Great British Pizza should be about more than great food. It should be built on love, community, inclusion and respect — a place where everyone feels welcome, where the team feel valued, and where locals and visitors alike can come together in an atmosphere full of warmth, character and good times.”
Bailey, 25, added: “For us, GB Pizza is about more than pizza. It’s about people. It’s about love, community, inclusion and respect. We want this to be a place where everybody feels comfortable, welcome and looked after.
“We’ve got a few exciting developments planned for the season ahead, and we’re looking forward to sharing more soon.”
The household are at present recruiting for 4 roles, two entrance of home and two again of home, in readiness for a hopefully busy summer time.
