Maya was killed by drug-user and home abuser Michael Daymond, who had began a relationship along with her mom. He was later jailed for all times.
The toddler’s mom Dana Carr, who had ignored weeks of “torture” waged on her baby by Daymond, was jailed for 9 years for permitting her dying.
The woman’s wider family mentioned she would “still be alive today” if legal guidelines disclosing a guardian or a caregiver’s historical past had been in place.
Rachael Walls, Maya’s nice aunt, mentioned the family need to create a legacy for her by campaigning on the problem.
She mentioned: “It’s just keeping positive memories of Maya in your head and making sure we keep her memory alive.”
The debate in Parliament will likely be led by Sunderland Central Labour MP Lewis Atkinson.
In response to the petition calling for the introduction of Maya’s Law, the federal government mentioned: “We are delivering significant reform across children’s social care, policing and the family court system to better safeguard children and stop them falling through the cracks of services.”
