Tony Award-winning actress Laura Benanti discovered herself humbled aboard a current flight after a airplane full of teenage theater college students failed to acknowledge her, she revealed in a TikTok video.
Benanti estimated that almost all of her fellow passengers had been members of a youth theater group, and never one of them knew who she was.
“So I would say about 83% of the people on this airplane are teenagers in a theater group,” Benanti mentioned within the video. “And not a single one of them recognizes me. And I could not tolerate that, obviously.”

Refusing to let the slight stand, Benanti took it upon herself to make an introduction.
“So I said, are you guys part of a theater group? And they said, yes. And then I said, I do theater,” she recounted.
Her bid for recognition was met with indifference. A younger man sporting a beret and a jacket draped over his shoulders responded with a easy “Cool,” a reply Benanti met with defeat.
