Cartwright led the Black and Whites to a seventh-placed end, three factors off a play-off place, final season.
He mentioned that they’d cancelled final Tuesday’s coaching session after he advised the staff about his exit.
“There was a pretty emotional meeting when I addressed the players,” he mentioned.
“The coaches left the room and the players decided to stay. In all honesty it wasn’t the type of atmosphere where a training session would have been of any value so I decided to call the day off.
“They wanted to go and chat amongst themselves. I have never requested what was mentioned, it is not my enterprise. I believe they’d some grievances that they wished to speak about and I do not know if they’ve been addressed both.”
The former Gold Coast Titans head coach said that despite his own situation he would not allow the season to be “wasted”.
“We’ve received to verify we win as many video games as we will,” he mentioned.
“It’s ridiculous to waste a season. We’re sitting two factors out of the highest six.”
