Joel Dommett’s son’s sweetly reveals new baby’s gender with wife Hannah Cooper

Hannah Cooper-Dommett spills on the hilarious realities of parenting – and the way the couple are getting ready for the upcoming arrival of child quantity two

Hannah Cooper-Dommett jokes somewhat nervously that her bump is so large now, folks principally clock her on the street and assume, ‘That woman needs to go home!’ Preparing for the upcoming arrival of her second little one with husband, TV host Joel Dommett, she tells in an unique interview that she is due ‘dangerously soon’.

But staying at residence shouldn’t be an possibility, explains the 37-year-old blonde magnificence, as she is aware of she’ll have a new child “stuck to her boobs’ soon – and wants to get out while she can.

After welcoming their first child Wilde, two years ago, the couple seem to be taking the prospect of baby number two in their stride – but not enough to venture outside the capital…

“Oh, I’m not leaving London”, mannequin and presenter Hannah says firmly. “Joel and I were supposed to go on a babymoon last week and ended up… freaking out and staying home!”

This pregnancy, she explains, is totally completely different to her first as she’s operating round a lot after their energetic two-year-old son that it seems like she’s competing in an ‘Olympic sport’ – and naps really feel like “utter luxuries”.

She’s additionally considering splitting her consideration between Wilde and the infant. “There’s definitely that mum guilt, how do you navigate two?! It’s a whirlwind of emotions that you almost don’t have time to think about – that’s maybe a good thing.”

The couple know what they’re having, however determined to maintain it a secret although it’s more and more troublesome, laughs Hannah, as Wilde appears hellbent on telling everybody he meets, “including the Ocado delivery man”.

The toddler additionally appears extra involved in regards to the current he’ll get when he lastly meets his little brother or sister. “He keeps saying, ‘Get Wilde racing car.’ I think he’s happy?!”

Is he within the thick of the ‘terrible twos’, then? Hannah concedes that, although he’s ramped up the mischievous behaviour within the final couple of weeks (“he can feel change in the air”), he’s an important little boy, calm and the alternative, if something, of his title.

Life, she provides, modified fully for her and Joel once they turned mother and father. “When you go on a first date with someone you think, “Oh, are they hot, would I maybe marry them?” I don’t assume you actually take into consideration how they’re going to be as mother and father. That’s an enormous one.”

Thankfully, she’s hit the jackpot relating to Masked Singer host Joel, 40, quipping that her biggest tip for a life partner is to date a ‘children’s entertainer’. “I think I’ve lucked out. I sometimes suspect he has more fun playing than Wilde does.”

On a serious note, she feels fortunate that she and Joel are such ‘open communicators’. “As parents you always have to voice how you’re feeling; otherwise resentment builds. We voice everything to each other. If we don’t, we save it up for the podcast, for the nation to listen to!”

The couple’s weekly pod, Never Have I Ever, which sees them act on uncommon, listener-suggested experiences they’ve by no means achieved earlier than, goes robust.

“We try to record it when Wild is down for a nap, and there’s always madness. It’s very relatable, like Wilde fell out of his cot for the first time the other day, then he’s singing Jingle Bells in March. It’s not the most professional, but it’s real.”

Their son’s latest thing, she adds, is running about supermarket aisles shouting ‘Take it off! Take it off!” at unsuspecting shoppers. “Joel really doesn’t get embarrassed easily, but it’s the one time that he honestly goes physically red when Wilde does that.”

Hannah and Joel tied the knot in an intimate beachside wedding in Mykonos in 2019. Would the pair ever renew their vows, with two little ones on special duties? “Actually, this December we’ve been together ten years, married seven. It’s the seven-year itch and we’re having a second child, so let’s see how it goes!”.

Ten years together is worth celebrating. Will they have a party? Hannah laughs. “Well, with the way my date nights are going with childcare and everything, maybe we’ll go for a nice dinner.”

“Like, today Joel and I are going for dinner at 5 p.m. That’s a prime spot because you get good service you’re home by nine and you know you’re going to be up early with your kids. If you’d told 21-year-old me I’d be going for a 5 p.m. dinner reservation, I’d have freaked out. We’re not rock and roll.”

It can’t be simple to juggle their busy schedules, particularly if Joel is away filming, as he was late final yr for I’m A Celebrity. Pre-kids, admits Hannah, it was ‘exciting’. Nowadays, it’s about sitting in mattress on a Sunday evening, consulting their shared Google calendar for the week forward.

Elsewhere, the Dutch-born mannequin, who was found in London as a young person, is backing a new WhatsApp channel by MAM Baby – The MAM Village – in partnership with perinatal psychological well being charity PANDAs, providing pre and post-natal help.

“It’s a wonderful campaign”, she enthuses. “It really resonated with me. It’s so difficult to find your ‘village’. The reality of what our villages look like these days are often our mates or a random mum that we’ve met in a café. We turn to social communities more than ever, so this is another opportunity for new mums to connect.”

Second time round, Hannah doesn’t feel as scared about asking for parenting help. “ I think we all try and pretend we’ve got it nailed, so asking means you’re not coping, and it’s actually the complete opposite. “I just want to encourage mums to connect and know where to go for help. If that’s something they can access at 3 a.m. when breastfeeding, amazing.”

Hannah’s expertise of that village was unexpectedly exhausting with Wilde, as her mom found in December 2020 that she had a brain tumour, and went on to suffer a stroke – prompting Hannah and Joel to each turn out to be ambassadors for Brain Tumour Support.

She says quietly, “I guess I had that rom-com idea of what my childcare setup would look like. I definitely delayed talking about children because we were like, how are we actually going to do this and what does it look like?”

She adds, “Anything can change at any time, for any of us.I think, it’s made me stronger and made me turn to new places and communities that I definitely wouldn’t have before.”

Hannah’s mom additionally suffers from aphasia now, which makes communication troublesome. “I’m going through a stage where Wilde is talking to an equivalent level to my mum, and that’s… like reliving different stages of grief. But I’m so grateful she’s here.

“Her being my village is something that we’ve had to reconfigure, and she’s sad about that too, I know that. I’d have loved it if mum was my number one go-to, but it’s just different — and that’s okay. That’s why things like the MAM Village are so important for new mums.”

Her mum’s illness has also put things into sharp focus for Hannah, who says she has inspired her deeply. “I had a photo of mum in the room when I was in labour with Wilde, thinking, this woman has been through so much – if she can do it, I can give birth. Her strength has given me the courage to be the mother that I am now.”
