An inquest has opened into the tragic death of renowned tattoo artist and model, Charlie Edwards of Grimsby. A tribute was paid to the 26-year-old by his former girlfriend, actor and presenter Emily Atack, when she was advised of the tragedy on March 24.
The star of TV reveals, The Inbetweeners, Celebrity Juice and Rivals described Charlie as “funny, smart, talented and caring.” Emily shared a image of her and Charlie, with whom she was pictured kissing in 2021, to Instagram. In the picture, Charlie was grinning on the digicam as Emily held onto his shoulder.
She mentioned of Charlie: ” Charlie you were my friend. You were always there for me. You dropped everything so many times to come and be with me.
“We talked for hours on finish on the cellphone about completely every little thing. We helped one another. You had been humorous, so good, so gifted and caring. I can solely hope and pray that you’ve got discovered some peace.”
She added that she was heartbroken for his household: “My coronary heart breaks for your loved ones who will eternally be so proud of you. Beautiful boy, beautiful soul. I’m so so sorry. Rest in peace Charlie.”
At Grimsby Town Hall, Assistant Coroner for Greater Lincolnshire, Jane Eatock, formally opened the inquest into Charlie’s death. She said the self-employed tattoo artist was found at the studio on Wilton Road, Humberston on March 24.
Miss Eatock said a post mortem examination was carried out by Dr Ian Richmond at Hull and said the cause of death was “but to be decided.” The assistant coroner opened and adjourned the inquest to a date in September.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate Charlie’s life at Grimsby Crematorium on Friday, May 1, at 2.15 pm. His family asked mourners to join them at The Wheatsheaf, Bargate, Grimsby afterwards.
They welcomed floral tributes or donations can be made to The Andy’s Man Club or The Fisherman’s Mission via their respective websites. Charlie is in the care of The Co-op Funeralcare, 55 Abbey Road, Grimsby.
He previously ran a business with his brother Jack, called Ravens Retreat and campaigned to remove the stigma of body art. Featuring in the Grimsby Telegraph during his relationship with Emily Atack, Charlie who had more than 200k followers on instagram, encouraged people to consider getting their chosen artwork on their bodies as a way of expressing themselves.
The renowned artist, whose artwork was liked by US rapper, Post Malone, had tattoos on all his limbs and torso. Charlie told the Grimsby Telegraph: “Some individuals are cautious that having a tattoo may have an effect on them getting jobs.”
He added there was less stigma and he said he always made sure the client he tattooed had something they have chosen and they can see and talk about what it is they want. He said: “I by no means do walk-ins or individuals that you just see having drunken vacation tattoos and probably remorse it later.”
