Come on, fess up: who’s been studying from the Necronomicon once more? Yes, the Evil Dead franchise is again, able to ship a recent jolt of demonic mischief – three years after 2023’s Evil Dead Rise to a cheese grater to the flesh of Sam Raimi’s cinematic baby (which, on this context, is a complete praise). With Lee Cronin off Lee Cronin-ing on Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, we now have Evil Dead Burn, from French director Sébastien Vaniček – and the primary teaser guarantees one other wild cinematic journey as solely Evil Dead can present. Check it out:
That is – fairly actually – one hell of a one-shot, following a terrified resident as she crawls throughout the ground of her home whereas our bodies crash and seize and float and flail throughout. While the Evil Dead movies can veer between excessive horror and slapstick comedy, all of them have one factor in widespread: a way of no-holds-barred kineticism, be it with the digicam or its poor human characters. And it seems to be like Vaniček actually received the memo right here, chucking our bodies with reckless abandon, and placing our poor pink-haired protagonist via absolutely the wringer.
Just like Evil Dead Rise (and 2013’s Evil Dead reboot), it is a considerably standalone entry within the saga, penned by Vaniček together with Florent Bernard – with Raimi on board as producer, after all. Here’s the synopsis: “After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites — turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell — she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.”
The excellent news is, this teaser offers us a launch date: July 10, which means the subsequent chapter of the Necronomicon is actually not far-off. And there’s extra to come back within the not-too-distant future too – one other standalone Evil Dead movie, rumoured to be titled Evil Dead Wrath, is being labored on already by filmmaker Francis Galluppi for a 2028 launch. Now, who’s received the boomstick?
