E-bike rider had cannabis and cocaine trace in his body

Police stopped Elliott Jackson, 28, at 10pm in James Street on December 16 as a result of the e-bike he was on had been modified, mentioned Damian Walsh, prosecuting.

Drug exams revealed traces of cannabis and cocaine over the authorized restrict in his body.

In 2022 Jackson was jailed for offences of drug driving and dangerous driving committed during a police chase when he had hit 60 mph on a motorbike in a 30 mph zone.

Defence solicitor Kevin Blount mentioned Elliott didn’t realise that the e-bike’s modification meant that he had to adjust to site visitors legal guidelines for vehicles and related autos.

“That is something not widely known,” he mentioned. “This is absolute ignorance rather than any deliberate intention to commit a criminal offence.”

Jackson, of Magnolia Grove, New Earswick, pleaded responsible to driving an e-bike with a by-product of cannabis in his body, driving an e-bike with a by-product of cocaine in his body, driving it with out insurance coverage and with out a driving licence.

Magistrates conditionally discharged him for 12 months and banned him from driving for 3 years. He was ordered to pay a £26 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution prices.

North Yorkshire Police are presently cracking down on modified e-bikes and e-bikes getting used illegally.

Mr Walsh mentioned police had no issues about the way in which Elliott was driving the e-bike.

Mr Blount mentioned Elliott had purchased the modified e-bike to get to and from work because it was simpler for him to make use of than a pedal bike.

He had not been requested if he had a driving licence when he purchased it and didn’t realise that the modification meant that he wanted one and that he wanted insurance coverage.

He was an occasional consumer of cannabis and cocaine and hadn’t realised the variety of days traces of each medication stayed in his system after use.
