Dinosaur skeleton Juliasaurus to be displayed in Colchester

The Juliasaurus is the centre piece of a brand new exhibition titled Discover: Museum Wonders which opens tomorrow (April 3) at Hollytrees Museum in Colchester.

The dinosaur, which dates again to the Late Jurassic interval, was found in the Morrison Formation in Wyoming and is assumed to be one of the essential dinosaur finds in latest years.

Pamela Donnelly, chief govt of Colchester City Council, mentioned: “We are extremely proud to open this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition to the general public.

“To welcome Juliasaurus – making its world debut proper right here in Colchester – is a rare second for our metropolis.

“The pleasure following yesterday’s nationwide TV characteristic exhibits simply how particular this exhibition is.

“We’re very grateful to everyone that has allowed this extraordinary specimen to be publicly displayed for the first time, here in Colchester and can’t wait for visitors, from families to fossil enthusiasts, to step into the world of discovery that awaits at Hollytrees Museum.”

The specimen has been loaned to the museum by a world collector, facilitated by David Aaron, and early analysis suggests it might characterize a species new to science.

The exhibition and the Juliasaurus skeleton had been not too long ago featured on BBC’s The One Show, bringing nationwide consideration to the show.

Salomon Aaron, director at David Aaron, mentioned: “We are thrilled to be working with Hollytrees Museum on the historic mortgage of ‘Juliasaurus’ for the Discover: Museum Wonders exhibition.

“This will be the first dinosaur fossil ever displayed in Colchester making this project all the more meaningful for us and I hope for the local community.”

In addition to the dinosaur, the exhibition showcases a wide range of intriguing gadgets from Colchester’s historical past, together with prehistoric fossils, witch bottles, and hidden footwear discovered beneath historic floorboards.

These objects reveal centuries of perception, superstition, and science.

A pop-up Dino Store is on-site, providing dinosaur-themed books, toys, and items for guests of all ages.

Due to the scale and structure of the Georgian galleries at Hollytrees Museum, the exhibition operates with timed entry.

Visitors can select from three two-hour slots every day, Monday to Saturday.
