A former host of BBC’s Antiques Roadshow has spoken of his remorse at the way in which his three marriages ended together with a high-profile split from an EastEnders star.

Elaborating on the way in which his marriage to Elizabeth had ended after 18 years when studies of his affair with Irene have been printed after images of the pair at a Manchester lodge have been leaked, he stated in the identical interview: “I had to go home and tell Lizzie after Manchester. I should have just given an interview [after the press found out]. But it just went on and on.”
When he left Antiques Roadshow to get replaced by present presenter Fiona Bruce, Aspel stated: “I’m leaving while it’s still going well,” reported The Standard. “It’s the show’s 30th anniversary and also my 50th year in broadcasting, so it seemed like a very neat tie-up.”
He continued: “It’s the first time that I will have left a job without having another one to go to but it was absolutely my own idea. There was never any mention of me being too old for the series.
