Amazon has acquired Rivr, a Swiss robotics firm creating machines for “doorstep delivery,” the corporate confirmed Thursday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Amazon quietly bought the corporate earlier this week, nevertheless it did not publicize the acquisition. It introduced the deal in a discover despatched to third-party supply contractors.
“We want to share that we’ve recently acquired RIVR, a company focused on technology that can help with doorstep delivery,” Amazon wrote within the discover considered by CNBC. “We believe this technology, when working alongside your [delivery associates], has the potential to further improve safety outcomes and the overall customer experience, particularly in the last steps of the delivery process.”

The firm depends on a community of hundreds of third-party contractors that ship packages completely for Amazon. These contractors are accountable for the so-called final mile portion of deliveries, that means the method of ferrying packages from an Amazon warehouse to the client’s doorstep.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Bezos is in early discussions to increase $100 billion for a fund that might purchase manufacturing corporations in sectors like chipmaking, protection and aerospace, then use AI to pace up automation.
