Marinella, the very first Greek consultant on the Eurovision Song Contest, has died aged 87.
Marinella, who represented Greece on the Eurovision Song Contest 1974, has died on the age of 87. She suffered a stroke in 2024 and had been battling well being issues since.
Kyriaki Papadopoulou, higher recognized by her stage title Marinella, was born on May 19, 1939 in Thessaloniki in northern Greece. As a toddler, she took half within the radio present “Pediki Ora” (Children’s Hour).
At the age of 17, Papadopoulou joined the creative troupe of Mary Laurent. She then grew to become the lead singer of the troupe after the previous lead singer fell in poor health. This led to her performing throughout Greece.
