Another defensive again is leaving Buffalo.
Former Bills safety Darnell Savage agreed to a one-year, $1.3 million deal, with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free company, in accordance to a number of stories, It’s the veteran minimal for a participant with seven or extra credited NFL seasons. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the primary to report the information.
Savage’s departure leaves Buffalo with only one true safety at the moment on its roster: beginning free safety Cole Bishop.
The Bills’ secondary has thinned shortly over the previous week. Cornerback Taron Johnson was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, cornerback Cam Lewis signed with the Chicago Bears in free company and veterans Jordan Poyer and Damar Hamlin remain free agents. Special teamer Sam Franklin Jr. performed six defensive snaps in 2025 and second-year defensive again Jordan Hancock can play a number of roles within the secondary.
Savage had a quick stint in Buffalo after the Bills claimed him off waivers from the Washington Commanders on Dec. 6. He appeared in two regular-season video games and one playoff sport.
The 28-year-old completed the 2025 season with 21 tackles and one compelled fumble throughout stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Commanders and Bills. Savage performed a career-low 266 defensive snaps through the season.
Savage was thrust into motion late in Buffalo’s divisional spherical playoff loss to the Denver Broncos after Cam Lewis exited the sport. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix instantly focused Savage for a 29-yard landing go to Lil’Jordan Humphrey with 22 seconds remaining within the first half. Savage performed three defensive snaps within the sport.
A former first-round decide by the Green Bay Packers in 2019, Savage has recorded 371 tackles, 10 interceptions, one sack and three compelled fumbles throughout 97 profession video games.
