Star rookie gets the ball after impressive season debut

After a 5-2 home opener win on Friday, the Boston Red Sox will trot out the similar lineup for Saturday afternoon’s recreation.

Rookie left-hander Connelly Early has the ball. He impressed in his season debut final weekend in Cincinnati, the place he held the Reds to 1 earned run on 5 hits, two walks and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings.

“I think Connelly earned the right to start,” supervisor Alex Cora mentioned Saturday morning. “He had a great offseason. He was outstanding in Fort Myers (during spring training), and he was good in the first one. So we expect him to go out there every five days and perform.”
