A significant earthquake in the South Pacific didn’t generate a tsunami that may threaten the Hawaiian islands, in accordance to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The magnitude 7.6 quake struck at 6:38 p.m. Hawaii time and was centered about 95 miles west of Neiafu, Tonga, and about 377 miles east-northeast of Labasa, Fiji, at a depth of about 147 miles, in accordance to the U.S. Geological Survey.
“Based on all accessible information a harmful Pacific-wide tsunami is just not anticipated and there’s no tsunami threat to Hawaii, in accordance to the PTWC in Ewa Beach.
“There is no tsunami threat because the earthquake is located too deep inside the earth,” PTWC officers stated.
