Kristen Bell went viral for oversharing about her marriage to Dax Shepard, and by some means her husband was one of many final to know.
The actress caused controversy again in October with an Instagram post celebrating her twelfth anniversary. In the caption, Bell joked that Shepard had as soon as promised “I would never kill you,” a sentiment that a lot of her 16 million followers didn’t discover humorous. She finally needed to limit feedback on the post, because the backlash intensified for being “insensitive” and downplaying home violence.
Now, almost six months later, Shepard is revealing what went on behind the scenes.
“Well, I was alerted by someone that this whole thing was happening,” he revealed Monday on his podcast, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, with featured visitor Nikki Glaser. “Kristen knew through her publicist, but didn’t tell me. So, I actually didn’t know, and this was brought to my attention [after] a week and a half… I had no clue.”
As Shepard recalled to the comic, “someone comforted me, and I had to go to Kristen, like, ‘What are they talking about?’ She’s like, ‘Oh, that post I had.’”
Bell’s post in query was a photograph of her and Shepard embracing with the caption: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.’”
Glaser broached the subject of the anniversary ode when she confessed to Shepard she had deliberate to joke about it in her monologue on the 2026 Golden Globes in January.
“But I didn’t do it because I’m friends with you,” the comedian said. “And I was like, ‘I don’t want to make his life harder.’”
“I definitely want to hear it,” Shepard pushed.
Glaser pulled up the joke on her iPhone. “Die, My Love. If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You. Sorry, Baby,” she learn. “These are not just Dax Shepard captions for his anniversary post. These are movies nominated tonight.”
Shepard laughed heartily, as Glaser defined why she ended up chopping the joke: “I didn’t do it because, also like, it was old news by then.”
But as he revealed, the couple’s oversharing was very a lot a sizzling matter on the Golden Globes purple carpet.

By then, folks had moved on to a joint interview they did with Cher, Bell’s co-star in 2010’s Burlesque, wherein the music icon didn’t cover her reservations about Shepard.
“You’re lucky,” quipped the “Believe” singer. “She’s definitely the better half… you must have something that I don’t see.”

Days later, when the couple hit the Golden Globes, “every interview we did was about Cher,” Shepard instructed Glaser.
“The thing that drives me nuts is, like, we released it. We posted it,” he continued. “I think it’s hilarious. That’s why I posted it.”
