York City have confirmed the exit of supervisor Stuart Maynard, three months after he guided the membership again into the English Football League after a 10-year absence.
A club statement, external posted on social media stated it had “not been an easy decision” by the board and it was made due to a “difference in direction and vision for the football club”.
York gained the National League in dramatic circumstances in April, scoring an equaliser within the thirteenth minute of second-half stoppage time to draw with title rivals Rochdale – who would have been champions themselves had they gained.
The Minstermen ended the marketing campaign on 108 factors, having replaced Adam Hinshelwood with former Notts County boss Maynard in August 2025.
The assertion continued: “We recognise that, from the outside, this may look like a strange or difficult decision to understand.
“But we imagine that in the long run, the soccer membership shall be in a stronger place due to it, one other step in the direction of the imaginative and prescient we, as custodians of this membership, imagine will ship sustained success.
It added: “We hope our track record of improving year on year has earned us a degree of trust and we understand that not everyone will agree with, or fully understand, this decision right away.”
York host Crawley Town in a Carabao Cup preliminary-round tie on Monday, 3 August and their first League Two match of the season is a house fixture in opposition to Bristol Rovers 12 days later.
