Timothée Chalamet‘s Oscar-nominated movie “Marty Supreme” is hitting streaming.
Set in Nineteen Fifties Manhattan, “Marty Supreme” follows a fast-talking, ping-pong hotshot named Marty Mauser (Chalamet), who’s useless set on jetting to Tokyo to compete within the international championships. But earlier than he can get there, he wants to scrounge up cash and get sponsors, which lands him in a collection of violent, get-rich-quick schemes.
According to the movie’s synopsis, Marty is “a young man with a dream no one respects,” who “goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.”
USA TODAY movie critic Brian Truitt gave the movie ★★★½ out of four, writing “director Josh Safdie’s globetrotting, genre-busting comedy thriller is a proudly oddball period movie that boasts throwback elements but leans timeless in its unlikely hero’s journey.”
Though the movie acquired nine nominations for this year’s Oscars, together with nods for greatest image, greatest unique screenplay, greatest cinematography, greatest modifying, greatest actor for Chalamet and greatest director for Josh Safdie, it failed to secure trophies during the March 15 ceremony, which came about shortly after Chalamet acquired widespread flak from the humanities neighborhood for saying that “no one cares” about ballet and opera, throughout a televised sit-down with Matthew McConaughey.
With the movie now hitting streaming, here is what to learn about how to watch.
