John Swinney is the person to beat on this election, if the
development in opinion polls is right.
His celebration tends to have a double-digit lead over the
others which, if translated into precise votes, ought to see him end this
contest as chief of the biggest celebration.
He desires to do even higher than that. His goal is to
safe an outright majority at Holyrood — to retain energy, to make the case for
one other independence referendum and – he says – to cease Reform UK having actual
affect within the subsequent Scottish parliament.
He is more likely to set all this out as he publishes the SNP
manifesto in Glasgow.
He is buying and selling on his lengthy expertise in authorities at a
time when the world feels unstable and the longer term unsure.
His rivals will argue that if the measures he declares
on value of residing, the NHS and different devolved companies are the solutions to
Scotland’s issues, he ought to have offered them during the last 19 years of SNP
administration.
