🇪🇸 #2. Spain — Disqualified from 2019 & 2023 Rugby World Cups
Spain’s highway to the Rugby World Cup has been suffering from eligibility controversies.
First, in 2019, Spain, Belgium and Romania have been all sanctioned for fielding ineligible gamers throughout the qualification marketing campaign — a debacle that ended up handing Russia an sudden ticket to Japan.
Then in 2022, Spain certified for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France for what would’ve been their first look in 24 years — just for the dream to be shattered once more. This time, it was found that Spain had allegedly used a participant with a solid passport throughout qualifying.
As a consequence, they have been docked 10 factors, booted out of the event, and changed by Romania, who had completed simply behind them.
❌ Despite appeals, World Rugby upheld the ban, marking the second time Spain had been eliminated from World Cup competition on account of participant eligibility points.
