(WJAR) — The Community College of Rhode Island introduced that for the first time, it will likely be awarding honorary degrees on the 2026 graduation in May.
According to faculty officers, late Judge Frank Caprio will likely be receiving a posthumous honorary Associate in Arts diploma to acknowledge his lifelong public service, management, and dedication to alternative and schooling.
The choose died final 12 months after shut to 40 years on the bench. He was identified world wide for his compassion.
CCRI mentioned it’s going to even be awarding New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and writer Dan Barry an honorary Associate in Arts diploma for his work in journalism and storytelling.
Barry labored on the Providence Journal when the paper gained the Pulitzer Prize in 1994, and has been working with the New York Times for over 30 years.

Similarly, Judge Caprio’s profound commitment to expanding educational opportunities and his uniquely compassionate approach to justice serve as an enduring inspiration to our community.”
In addition to receiving an honorary degree, Barry will also deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2026, officials said.
According to CCRI, Barry and Caprio were recommended as the college’s inaugural honorary degree recipients by the school’s Honorary Degree Committee.
