Iowa women’s basketball learns of first transfer portal entrant

The Iowa women’s basketball program realized of its first deliberate transfer departure this cycle on Friday morning.

Junior guard Kennise Johnson introduced her intentions to enter the transfer portal. The 5-foot-4 guard out of Joliet, Illinois, signed with the Hawkeyes within the 2023 signing class.

Johnson appeared in 20 profession video games, totaling 9 factors, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal on 3-of-10 taking pictures in her Hawkeye profession.

“To the Hawkeye fans, thank you. You embraced me and showed me love no matter what my role looked like, whether I was on the court, on the bench, or battling injury. That kind of support means everything, and it never went unnoticed,” Johnson wrote in her transfer portal entrance announcement.

Johnson missed the whole thing of the 2024-25 season after struggling an ACL tear close to the tip of her freshman season. While Johnson is listed as a junior, she might search a medical redshirt and wind up with two seasons of eligibility remaining at her subsequent cease.

The two-week transfer portal window opens someday after the nationwide championship sport on Monday, April 6.
