Tenerife, La Palma, Portugal warning with UK tourists facing ‘highest threat’
A climate professional has issued a warning for Tenerife and La Palma tourists – as well as those visiting Portugal – within the coming weeks. La Palma and Tenerife are two of the Canary Islands, and a climate professional has warned each are on the “highest risk” of heavy rain.
Madeira, in Portugal, can be impacted. Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly wrote on social media: “Risk of excessive rainfall totals for elements of the Canary Islands and Madeira.
“As Ireland is more likely to see excessive stress convey us extra settled and drier climate from later this coming week, there’s a threat of low stress to the Southwest of Spain bringing a lot of rain to Western Canary Islands and Madeira.”

He added: “In the Canaries La Palma and elements of Tenerife at highest threat. Models present that over the subsequent 2 weeks as much as 300mm may fall on La Palma and as much as 270mm on Madeira. If planning a vacation in that space control the forecast.”
According to forecasts, the arrival of the Atlantic front will bring widespread rainfall across northern Spain, with some areas facing particularly intense conditions.
According to AEMET, which is the Spanish version of the Met Office, the weather forecast for Tenerife indicates mainly clear skies or few clouds overall.
There is also expected to be some cloud cover in the north and cloudy conditions in the northeast, carrying a low probability of light and sporadic precipitation.
Light haze will be present, more significant in the peaks and southern slopes, diminishing during the second half of the day, according to the meteorologists.
Minimum temperatures may see a slight rise, while maximum temperatures are predicted to decrease slightly, according to the forecasters from AEMET.
But additionally they mentioned a weak frost shouldn’t be dominated out in central highlands.
