Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are the screenwriters who struck gold practically 20 years in the past with The Hangover, an excellent stag-weekend nightmare comedy about what occurs in Vegas, which sadly spawned a horrible (although profitable) franchise. Now, as writers and administrators, they’ve tried turning it round and making a film about how middle-aged girls behave on a longed-for spa weekend at a luxury-porn resort. The result’s a comedy with out gags, a comedy which, for all the strenuous high-jinks, is afraid to be flippant or imply or, certainly, humorous in any method.
Leslie Mann performs a hotshot lawyer referred to as Jane who can’t make room in her life for love; Anna Faris is goofy Sophie, PA to a wealthy asshole; Michelle Buteau is outspoken badass Coco, offended at her ex-husband courting once more; and Isla Fisher is landed with the stridently unfunny function of Mel, a wild little one who makes the different three nervous, however whose life-affirming no-filter honesty goes to break everybody’s emotional logjam and kind out their lives.
